Questions and answers
Becoming a godfather is the desire of many people, and we list what is needed for such an important role in the life of a child in Africa. A child whose life is fundamentally changed. A child who has a godfather is saved.
In order to explain as clearly as possible how godfatherism works in our association, we tried to provide answers to all the questions we encounter.
Read all the answers carefully, so if something is not clear to you, feel free to ask a question and our expert team will answer as soon as possible.
Public publication of the picture, name and surname of the child is absolutely prohibited, because of this you can be excluded from godparenthood, it is a very threatening situation for the child who is here.
You can’t even imagine how many people follow our work here.
In Rwanda, we are the largest humanitarian organization that works according to the principle of one godfather, one child. Sharing pictures, names, which school he goes to is prohibited. A person who does not have good intentions, understands that the child has a sponsor and may be in mortal danger, please do not publish pictures, names or surnames.
It is very important that you notify us of any change in your personal information, be it email, mobile phone number, link or link on Facebook (because not all godparents are called the same as they are on Facebook).
If we do not have a reported change, we have nowhere and to whom to report what is happening to the child. The child may move away with his parents (there are large population migrations due to poverty or he may die), and we would like to inform you to stop paying for that child.
It is very disturbing and sad when godparents ask for a girl or boy of a certain age to become godparents. We work according to the principle of taking care of the entire school at once, and we do this without choosing. They are all terribly poor.
If you want to have more godchildren, it depends solely on you and your financial capabilities.
It is important to note here that for each child (if you have several children) you enter a special number for that child, because everything must be registered correctly.
Children’s birthdays are not celebrated here. Most of them don’t even have a birth certificate. It is usually written that they were all born on the first of January. To send any package, it is impossible because there is no post office, electricity, water or address.
The best thing to buy a godchild for dedicated donations is food, meaning beans and rice, followed by goats, mattresses, soaps and spoons. As we develop as The roadmap for help, we will write in posts what to buy next.
Dedicated donations – we can know the price of beans, rice, mattresses maybe a month before we leave. We publish prices a month and a half before departure on our Facebook and website.
They look forward to the mattresses the most because for the first time they are not sleeping on the bare ground. Those who are a little richer have rugs. These mats are very thin, not even one centimeter thick, the mattress is the first thing we decided to get them off the ground, it is a terribly big event and change in their lives.
We buy spoons exclusively for several reasons, firstly because of infections, secondly, until now they only ate with their fingers. We don’t buy knives and forks because they don’t know how to use them and they could injure themselves, and we definitely want to avoid that.
Goat is the only meat they eat in a year when the godfathers buy it. Namely, they do not have the conditions to make cheese and milk. Goat’s milk is given only to newborns and the sick, they prepare that goat for some kind of communion or wedding, it is the only type of protein they get in a year.
Donations such as a goat, a mattress, 25 kilos of rice or beans, of course, cannot be carried by children. The parents must be called because we prepare the lists beforehand that we send to the principals so that the parents can come and collect them.
Adoption of children in Rwanda is prohibited by law.
From donations, we receive what we would give to our children, meaning the best, cleanly ironed, not necessarily new but with no stains.
Clothing for children and women from zero years onwards, school supplies, buttons, scissors, needles, threads, materials for sewing dresses and trousers, small light plastic toys from cars to small stuffed toys (for kindergartens), children’s books in English from picture books and light backpacks.
It is impossible to make a video recording of the awarding of dedicated donations individually. Only a group recording, which is what we do. If we have to distribute 100 goats, 200 mattresses, 300 spoons, a ton of beans and rice in that school that day, you know that it is an impossible mission to film each family individually taking it.
